An Overview
The company was formed in 1975
to carry out painting of structures to be installed as part
of the growing North Sea oil industry. Since then Barrier
has carried out more than 200 major contracts, totalling millions
of square metres of surface protection, working for most major
oil companies and on almost all major projects in the UK sector.
More recently the company has introduced passive fire protection,
metal spraying, powder coatings and subsea insulation.
Barrier has expanded into the Petrochemical
market, carrying out corrosion and passive fire protection
on pre-assembled steelwork, in-situ on both new and upgrade
work to refineries in the UK and abroad.
New companies have been formed to extend the
capability of the company into markets where its services
are required, especially in the EEC and Scandinavia, Canada,
the Middle and Far East. In countries where the training of
local labour in offshore procedures is appropriate, joint
venture companies have been formed.
Project Management
Barrier has been a leader for some
years in the use of the "black box" technique of
steel preparation and coating, bringing to bear large resources
of manpower and plant to reduce the programme time on fabricated
modules, saving time and costs, and releasing large areas
of work to other trades. This technique has been used to jointly
manage the application of sprayed fire protection and corrosion
coatings, providing long life systems.
Training
Barrier have developed multi-skilled teams by training in-house
and use equipment designed and built in-house for safe and
economical coating with epoxy intumescent and metallisation
coatings.
Facilities
The company operates from strategically placed facilities
for the offshore industry in the UK and Holland and can handle
large volumes of steelwork and pipework coating with special
capability in lifting, transport and expediting.
Barrier can take responsibility for environmental habitats,
scaffolding and export packaging.

Barrier Ltd has been associated with the oil industry since
its inception and is conversant with the exacting standards
of an industry demanding long life coatings. Barrier Group
companies were registered to BS EN ISO 9002: 1994. The company
Quality Philosophy is readily available while the full scope
of Quality Plans and Procedures are developed for specific
projects.
